HISTORY OF CLONING
Did you know that cloning has been going on in the natural world for thousands of years? A clone is simply one living thing made from another, leading to two organisms with the same set of genes. For example, when earthworms are cut in half, they regenerate the missing parts of their bodies, leading to two worms with the same set of genes.
However, the ability to intentionally create a clone in the animal kingdom by working on the cellular level is a very recent development. Almost every week, we hear about new advances in the science of cloning. You must have already heard about Dolly, the cloned sheep, but are you aware of all the details about cloning? Did you know that scientists have been working on it for over 100 years?
Many people believe that human cloning will be a reality in a very near future. The question is: is this good or bad? What consequences can human cloning have? Do humans have the right to paly God?
A group of people is about to get together to discuss this subject: there will be a scientist (directly involved in the process of cloning), a priest (representing the Church), an expert in bioethics and the owner of a fertility clinic.
You will be one of them. So, you have to do some research and defend your point of view on wether cloning is a good or a bad thing and the consequences / implications of such a procedure.
